He was initiated into the mysteries of several nations, then spent "two and twenty years in Egypt" and was admitted to "all the mysteries of the gods". He is among the first "divine men" of science and philosophy[1]. Valentine's account says he "consented to be circumcised" to join the Hyksos societies[2].
