Position
"Established first, primarily and foremost, as a branch of the ancient order of the religion of Mystery Babylon"[1]. Cooper calls them the first international bankers, "the first modern communists", "an invisible superstate", and the channel through which the mysteries came to Europe. "Everything that's happening today can be traced right to the door of the Knights Templar"[1]. "They still exist to-day ... For they are the mystery school to-day"[2].
The military wing of the Order of Sion, "the centre" of the 12th-century web[3]. "Knowledge of the reptilian Agenda was the great secret of the leading Templars"[3]. They founded modern interest-based banking and owned monarchs through debt and blackmail. "The Freemasons are the Templars under another name"[4]. In And the Truth Shall Set You Free (1995) the Templars are "among the first bankers in the Western world" who, after the purge, "went underground and their influence has continued up to the present day", working within other secret societies that are "part of the same overall organisation", the Brotherhood[5]. "The force that emerged as Freemasonry was, and is, the Knights Templar"[6].
Controls / directs
It founded Freemasonry (14th century, England and Scotland), the York Rite and the Columbian Faction of the Illuminati. It evolved into Skull and Bones (the land branch, "Brotherhood of Death") and the Pirates (the fleet), built Chartres Cathedral, and killed Nasir al-Din. Cooper ties its dates to the JFK assassination[7]
Answers to / controlled by
It was created by the Priory of Sion (1118) and initiated by the Assassins, who were "the larger ... organization". It was answerable only to the Holy See after Omne Datum Optimum[8]

Lineage
College of Priests of Babylon / Mystery Babylon → Syrian sects, Gnostics, Assassins, Roshaniya and Essenes → Templars (1118) → driven underground (1307) → Freemasonry, the Scottish Rite (its "outward form"), the Knights of Malta, Skull and Bones and the York Rite[11]. Johannite doctrine played a large part[12].
Formed in 1118 (possibly 1114) and formally established at the Council of Troyes on 31 January 1128, sponsored by St Bernard and the St Clairs[3]. They split from Sion at Gisors in 1188 and were purged on Friday 13 October 1307[13]. They escaped to Scotland, Portugal (the Knights of Christ), Lorraine, the Knights of Malta, the Teutonic Order and probably the Americas[14]. They re-emerged as the victors of Bannockburn (1314), the Order of the Garter (1348), the Scots Guard (1445), the Scottish and York Rites, and Freemasonry[15].

Author's claims
  1. 01Their aristocratic hierarchy was built for world hegemony, "carried over even unto the modern day"[24].
  2. 02Their Baphomet was "the light, Lucifer, the gift of intellect". Spurned by the pope, "they spurned God and turned to Lucifer"[25].
  3. 03"Templars and Hospitallers were and still are one and the same"[24].
  4. 04The hidden Templar wealth "built a financial empire that stands to this day as the most powerful on the earth" (with Robinson)[26].
  5. 05The skull-and-bones gravestones match Yale's Brotherhood of Death and the pirate flag[24].
  6. 06Kirk's reversed initials (K.T.J.) and the Jedi/Yoda encode them[27].
  1. 01They worked with the Assassins while appearing to oppose them, "the Brotherhood's method of controlling both sides"[3].
  2. 02Their Mother of God is Isis to initiates[3].
  3. 03They charged 60% interest on late debt and collected the Pope's taxes[3].
  4. 04They aimed at a centrally controlled United States of Europe, achieved today "via the Freemasons, the Bilderberg Group, and others"[28].
  5. 05Their inner core practised black magic and was accused of Baphomet worship, child-killing and abortion; they helped expand the network that controls today's Satanic structure[29].
  6. 06The skull and crossbones flew on their fleet, and their skull ceremonies inspired Skull and Bones[30].
  7. 07They chose gargoyles to decorate buildings and built Notre Dame on a Diana site[31].
  8. 08The OSS, the CIA's predecessor, was "peopled entirely by Knights Templar" (per Bill Cooper)[15].
  9. 09Their temples in Paris and London were financial centres; they were the richest organisation in every country and the first Western bankers, the start of the lineage that runs to the House of Rothschild ("Among the first bankers in the Western world were the Knights Templar")[22].
  10. 10The Priory of Sion is "the inner, controlling, core of the Knights Templars"[32].
  11. 11A United States of Europe under centralised control "was one of the goals of the Knights Templar"[23].
  12. 12Their creed "formed the basis of the Scottish Rite"; Speculative Freemasonry was "the Knights Templar/Illuminati manifesting on the public stage"[33].
  13. 13The Red Cross symbol, the cross of England and the red cross under which Columbus sailed are the Templar red cross; the Maltese Cross links them to the Knights of Malta and the Ku Klux Klan emblem[34].
  14. 14SS rituals were taken from the Jesuits and the Knights Templar[35].
  15. 15In Portugal as the Knights of Christ they served Prince Henry the Navigator: the explorer Vasco de Gama was a Knight of Christ, and Columbus's father-in-law, a Knight of Christ and one of Prince Henry's captains, left the maps Columbus used[36].
  16. 16In Everything You Need to Know its inner circle is high in the satanic hierarchy; it still controls the Temple legal district and the City of London financial district, where it built its church in the late 12th century[37].
